NXT Gen Cup receives environmental award by Swedish Automobile Sports Federation

NXT Gen Cup, the world's first 100% electric junior touring car cup, was awarded the 2023 Environmental Award of the Swedish Automobile Sports Federation (SBF) during the annual prize giving ceremony in Jönköping, Sweden.

"The electrification of the motorport has not been easy, but some have managed really well. NXT Gen Cup made themselves known through a thorough promotion job during the second half of 2022 and came as rookies for the 2023 season. They left as winners with a beautiful environmental impact and a lot of well-deserved praise," read the motivation of the SBF jury.

NXT Gen Cup completed its premiere season in 2023 with six thrilling race weekends in Sweden and Germany.

The season featured a competitive grid of the all-electric LRT NXT1 race cars driven by 23 drivers from eight different countries, including Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, Czechia, Great Britain, Germany, United States and Romania.

NXT Gen Cup was also handed the Honorary Award by the Swedish Automobile Sports Federation during the gala for the 2023 season.

"We are very proud of the awards from the Swedish Automobile Sports Federation. This is a fine appreciation of the hard and cutting-edge work that the NXT Gen Cup team, partners and drivers have put in during 2023," said Fredrik Lestrup, series founder.

"It is an amazing feeling for everyone involved to have completed this vital first step to show that electrified junior motorsport is exciting, competitive, relevant and reliable. And this is just the start, we have plenty of exciting news just around the corner regarding the 2024 season."

The top three NXT Gen Cup drivers of the 2023 season received their official Swedish Junior Titles from the Swedish Automobile Sports Federation during the gala, including champion Elias Adestam, runner-up Linus Granfors and third-placed Ellis Spiezia.

"This gala means so much to all of us who are involved in this sport. All the biggest stars have been here throughout the years. It's where you want to be - it's the receipt that you've done a really good job during the year. It means a lot to me to receive the JSM gold. The whole evening has been amazing and I hope to be back here again next year!" said reigning NXT Gen Cup champion Elias Adestam.
