Frequently asked questions.

What is NXT Gen Cup?

NXT Gen Cup is the world’s first and only fully electric junior touring car racing series, holding its inaugural season in 2023.

Sustainability and the environment are in our focus, as well as an activation on and off the track that is above the usual level.

The electrification makes a city presence possible, meaning that the activation and racing will reach a wider audience.

NXT Gen Cup is created to deliver a platform for the new generation race drivers - aged 15 to 25 years - to start their racing careers.

The LRT NXT1 race car is developed and built by the NXT Gen Cup organisation and is based on the fully electric MINI Cooper SE road car. The race car has a 30kWh battery, 180hp with 60hp extra in a push-to-pass functionality and weighs only 1150kg.

NXT Gen Cup ran its first season in 2023 and delivered six successful race weekends, 12 race heats and Elias Adestam as the first champion. The races were held in Sweden and Germany.

NXT Gen Cup runs all the cars in the championship in an “arrive-and-drive” package to give all drivers equal machinery but also to keep the costs down for the drivers.

All charging of the race cars is handled by the NXT Gen Cup organisation and is possible due to the use of power banks and fast chargers.
