Karting champion Sebastian Kinnmark makes NXT Gen Cup move

2018 Swedish karting champion Sebastian Kinnmark will join the NXT Gen Cup season this year, racing the LRT NXT1 race car in the world's first 100% electric junior touring car cup.

"I'm really excited to join NXT Gen Cup and make my racing debut, especially as it will be fully electric," said Kinnmark.

The 16-year-old claimed the Swedish Junior 60 karting title and received the Ronnie Peterson Scholarship in 2018.

Last year saw the Swede taking part in the first-ever all-electric official Swedish karting championship event.

"I've got plenty of karting experience, but I'm really keen to start my racing career and especially to do it with a groundbreaking series like NXT Gen Cup," said Kinnmark.

"I got my first taste of the series during the interesting educational program with Swedbank which has been helpful in our process of finding partners. I'm ready to get behind the wheel and can't wait for the season to start!"

NXT Gen Cup will start at Falkenberg on July 8-9 and run alongside the all-electric STCC, explore the full calendar here.

The LRT NXT1 race car is based on the electric MINI Cooper SE road car that has been purpose-built for racing by Lestrup Racing Team, the founders of NXT Gen Cup.
