Jonathan Engström aims high for second NXT Gen Cup season

Jonathan Engström, who topped the Misano pre-season test, is aiming high for his second NXT Gen Cup season after a promising debut in 2023.

"My ambition for 2024 is to establish myself in the top three and to fight for the championship," said Jonathan Engström.

The Swedish driver finished fifth overall in his debut season, claiming two second place finishes, and started his 2024 season in the best possible way by setting the fastest time in the official pre-season test last week.

"We had a solid plan for the test days which have provided us with the right conditions ahead of the season start next week," said Jonathan Engström.

"The competition will be really hard this year, harder than last year. But I think my experience from last year will help and I have a good understanding of the car now.

"I have a good feeling ahead of the season and I'm really looking forward to racing on all these legendary tracks this year. A dream of mine is to win in Monaco and we will work flat out to succeed.”

The 19-year-old, who claimed the 2022 Formula Nordic bronze medal, will join the NXT Gen Cup field in the season opener on April 13-14 during the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship weekend at Misano in Italy.

"It's great to see Jonathan back for a second season and he impressed us all during the pre-season test last week. He made strong progress last year after a tentative start to the season and it will be interesting to see him take on this year's challenges," said Fredrik Lestrup, NXT Gen Cup founder.
